LIFE!!!!!!!.... Hi Mick and welcome mate...circle hooks? use em myself and they works fer me very well. I use em with the tagging system but just ensure your tag keeps the hook away from the bait...otherwise it'll hook the ruddy bait...they do self hook well and i often use a dissolving foam pellet thingy on the hook what crappers sorry carpers use to prevent bait hooking ..and trim off the tail fin.. hope that helps and as i posted sometime back, aint been on in a while cos real busy with other stuff and time is a bit limited at the mo, my last pike was a hard fightin 21 and the circle held perfectly. tight lines etc etc and keep up the good pikin practices chaps Ian.

Ayup Mick, I've been using Circles for Pike & Zander for years and generally hover around the 2/0 size. The main thing with Circles is to make sure the hook point is clear of the bait because when pulling into a fish you are in effect drawing the bait/hooks through the mouth so the point can locate the fish's mouth rim, the hook turns and penetrates the flesh (usually in the scissors). It can't do this if it's lying flat against the bait. I have found 3 ways to 'mount' hooks on the bait... 1. when wobbling or fishing a small deadbait 'head upstream', I generally use the rubber band through the eyes method as detailed in one of my earlier posts on this thread (with link). 2. If I want the hook clear of the bait, I attach a rig ring to the eye of the hook and use the tagging method so effectively 'hair rigging' the bait. I generally only use this on smaller baits. 3. When using larger baits I use 2 single circles in tandem but on the hook that lies against the flank of the bait, I have soldered a small piece of steel rod (about 5mm long) near the eye so that the hook can stand at right angles to the bait (again see an earlier post). This is necessary because I started off without the 'T' piece and the hooks eventually worked their way under the elastic to end up flat against the bait making them useless. This hook is bound on with bait elastic (marvellous stuff) but obviously the other hook needs to take the weight of the bait on the cast so it either goes through the root of the tail or is tagged to the bait. With the hook standing proud in 3 above, some might argue that a fish will feel the hook and drop the bait. I would argue that when a Pike picks up a bait off the river/lake bed, it probably picks up sticks and debris so is used to 'bits sticking out'. And what about taking a Perch? Spiny dorsal fins? I have used method 3 probably more than the other 2 put together and I personally think the odd dropped run I have had would've happened whatever rig I was using. One other benefit with Single hooks in general as opposed to trebles is the traces are easier to store. I keep all mine on Korum Maxi rig stores. Give 'em a go mate. You won't regret it.
